Top 3 Tips to Get Your Baby to Roll

3 Top Tips for Getting Your Baby to Roll

Rolling is an essential milestone for babies which primes development for strength, coordination and learning.

Typically;

  1. Rolling usually occurs between 3-5 months of age.

  2. Usually babies roll from tummy to back first, then back to tummy.

  3. It’s normal and common for babies to initially be inconsistent with their rolling and only go one way before becoming more consistent, usually around that 4-5 month window.

The best ways to optimise rolling is to;

  1. Build strength- floor time, encourage tummy time, move against gravity.

  2. Use toys- to encourage head turning, allowing the body to follow.

  3. Rolling practice- prime the balance and coordination systems of the inner ear and brain by helping your baby get to the ‘tipping point’.
